Zero Waste Clothing

At Formland, we met the lovely Malaika, and we could quickly see a synergy between our two brands. Malaika is an internationally recognized Danish designer who focuses on responsibility and "Zero Waste Clothing" and is behind Malaika New York.
Our focus on less laundry is incredibly well connected with Malaika's focus on responsibility and zero waste.
Malaika herself is excited about our Freshen Up as she does not need to wash her clothes and wear them out unnecessarily by washing too much. Malaika uses eco-friendly materials, which is also in line with our natural approach to our products, which is why our sensitive detergent fits perfectly with Malaika's designs.
ABOUT Malaika New York
Malaika is a zero-waste responsible womenswear brand. They make timeless designs from delicious eco-friendly materials and angular silhouettes which are brand new on the Danish market and a breath of fresh air. The clothing brand started on the Danish market in 2022, but they have been on the American market for the past six years and have sold across the US and worldwide. They focus on women feeling good in their designs, so the quality of the materials, the construction and the fit are top of the agenda.
Malaika started her zero-waste clothing brand in the USA in 2016 when she saw a gap in the market with a responsible clothing brand that was not bohemian / hippy-like. She wanted to offer the fashion market a minimalist, responsible clothing brand focusing on timeless and angular designs.
Her zero-waste designs mean that clothing brands only waste around 5% compared to the industry's general 30% per style they make. This is Malaika New York's biggest focus in terms of responsibility, but all their materials are also eco-friendly. They only produce in Europe because of the worker's rights, that they can easily and quickly go to their factory if required, and there is no child labour either. They have many more initiatives, which you can read about here. ( www.malaikanewyork.com/pages/sustainability )
For us at Byoms, it is a critical agenda for the clothing industry, and we would like more designers to work in this direction.
