Sophia Rytter Møller and Kamilla Strand-Holm Schmidt completed their master's degree in Industrial Design at Aalborg University last year, but even before that, they had kickstarted their entrepreneurial journey.

As part of a course in their program, they were tasked with designing, producing, and selling 20 units of a product in just ten days. This led to the creation of the LUX candleholder, made from washed-up ocean plastic from the Danish West Coast. They sold out of all the candleholders in just ten minutes, and a waiting list was created. They then began production in their student apartments, where the ocean plastic was melted in the kitchen oven.

This fueled their entrepreneurial dreams, and they established SoKa Design Studio, where they use ocean plastic and other waste materials to create new products.

"We aim to design products that are timeless and classic in their expression. Our hope is that customers will realize they can help combat resource waste by purchasing products made from waste materials instead of products made from new raw materials," says Sophia Rytter Møller.

"Our goal is to create a world where waste materials are seen as a valuable resource rather than waste, and in doing so, contribute to a more sustainable consumption and production culture," says Kamilla Strand-Holm Schmidt
