When Cleaning Becomes Styling

Many Danes decorate their homes with beautiful designs but rarely change their dishcloths or bed linens—a realization that sparked the creation of Humdakin. The owner and founder of Humdakin, Camilla Schram, ran her own cleaning business in the years leading up to her idea for Humdakin. The vision behind Humdakin is to remind people to maintain hygiene while making cleaning products something that doesn’t need to be hidden away in cupboards.

Camilla Schram started her own cleaning business as a young student. Her focus was always to give customers a luxury experience—much like staying at a hotel. Private clients, for example, would return home to neatly folded toilet paper, a new hand soap by the sink, and a freshly made bed. She also used environmentally friendly, neutral cleaning products. Her aim was to create a small touch of luxury in everyday life for her clients, a concept that would later be carried over into what eventually became Humdakin.

“I’ve been in so many beautifully decorated homes, and then there’s a dirty dishcloth by the kitchen sink, and the same dishtowel is hanging in the kitchen when you return the following week. Many people live very busy lives today, and many of us in the younger generations have never really learned about cleaning and hygiene—it’s more about having a nice-looking home,” explains Camilla Schram.

Alongside running her cleaning business, Camilla spent time developing the concept that would eventually become Humdakin. She delved into soap production with her aunt, who is a trained laboratory technician. Camilla also knew that in order to succeed in getting her cleaning products into the most exclusive interior retailers, the products needed to have an appealing design.

Today, that mission has been accomplished, and Humdakin supplies luxury interior shops in 55 different countries.
