Aglaia, Chinese perfume plant, Chinese rice flower. The plant's genus name comes from Greek mythology. Aglaia was the name of a Greek goddess of radiance, splendor and good health.
FRAGRANCE DESCRIPTION:
Aglaia has a very exciting and delightful scent, with hints of citrus notes. In natural perfumery, Aglaia is ideal for fruity floral compositions, green tea notes in oriental combinations, and when one wants to create exciting East Asian scents. It also suits peach and pear inspired scents as well as robust yellow floral scents.
AROMATHERAPEUTIC EFFECTS:
There are no documented aromatherapy uses of Aglaia Odorata, although it is said to be uplifting. It is said to bring a sense of happiness, peace and calm emotions.
CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:
In Chinese culture, Aglaia flowers represent fortune because its small flowers resemble grains of rice, which are believed to bring wealth and good luck.

Thailand. The plant is also native to low-lying regions of China. They also grow wild in Taiwan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
THE PLANT:
Aglaia flowers are small, about 2 mm (the size of a grain of rice), and have a robust aroma during the day, but little or no scent at night. Its intense scent gave it its common name Perfume plant for good reason. The evergreen flowering plant grows easily in clay pots and can do with almost no care. Its lovely scent creeps up on you as you pass it - it will become one of your favorites.
