SOSU´s Hands

From the initial thoughts about the design of Maya Soele® SOSUén, I knew that the figure should depict hands holding a heart.

Just like the other figures, I first created 3D drawings and prints of the figure before sending the files off for production in Vietnam.

We just needed to find some files with hands that we could incorporate into the 3D drawing, but that proved easier said than done. We searched and searched the internet but never found the right hands.

There were plenty of witch and wizard hands with long, crooked fingers and long nails, but that wasn't really what we needed.

Desperate times called for desperate measures until I thought of my wonderful niece, Mercedes.

Off to Randers we went, and we spent the day making a mold of her beautiful hands.

After creating the mold, it was simply a matter of pouring plaster into it and then breaking it apart to get to the actual cast.

With that, I took a trip to Sønderborg so they could scan the hands and incorporate them into the 3D file.

So, all the SOSU figures that will be standing in Danish homes and businesses are, in fact, modeled after Mercedes' hands.
