Budding design talents will be celebrated at the Danish design fair Formland Spring 2020, when it brings together the most promising entrepreneurial brands from both home and abroad in the entrepreneurs' area, CREATORS COMMUNITY.

Talent and creativity will be out in force at Formland Spring from 30 January to 2 February 2020, when specially selected entrepreneurs will present their products in the inspiring CREATORS COMMUNITY. The area features 60 upcoming designer brands from Denmark, Sweden, Germany, France and the United States, exhibiting in the categories of interiors, handicrafts, furniture, fashion and delicacies.
"Visitors can look forward to exploring a vibrant and inspiring area filled with passionate designers, all with brand new ideas and products. Stepping into CREATORS COMMUNITY is like stepping into the budding future of the design industry," says Formland's project manager, Mai-Britt Risvig Flyvholm.
Formland paves the way to Denmark and Europe
The selected exhibitors get a professional mentor in the form of an established designer or business manager, who is assigned to them before, during and after the fair. This is an offer that Ida Holm and Mads Taiki Pedersen, who earlier this year won the TV 2 programme's 'Nybyggerne', call 'a gift'. The couple are attending the fair with their Japanese-inspired poster company Taisho, and are hoping that Formland will be their stepping stone to the international market.
"As a relatively new brand, we have really benefited from being a part of CREATORS COMMUNITY and exhibiting at Formland. The fair is a real heavyweight in the interior and design industry, both nationally and internationally. We have gained a large following in Denmark, so the next natural step for us is to branch out and cross the country's borders into Europe, via Formland. We have high hopes and are really looking forward to the fair," says Mads Taiki Pedersen, co-founder of Taisho.
By contrast, design and interior company Form & Refine hopes that Formland can help further their presence in Denmark. Form & Refine is rooted in Nordic design history, but supports local craft traditions by making products in the areas the raw materials come from. At Formland Spring, the company will also be presenting its new business arm 'in praise of off-cuts', with products made from residual materials from other productions.
"For us, the main purpose of attending Formland is to put Form & Refine firmly in the Danish market as a quality and environmentally conscious brand. In Denmark, design is approached with a very close-knit brand and design-conscious mindset, which can make it hard for new brands. CREATORS COMMUNITY is helping to mark us as 'the new trend' in the design industry. Being part of an event that can attract people with an interest in new designs is therefore a real benefit for us," says Helle Herman Mortensen, co-founder of Form & Refine.
A unique opportunity
Vinter Studio, which designs sustainable interiors such as cork, is delighted to be among the exhibitors selected for CREATORS COMMUNITY. Designer and founder Mathias Vinter refers to the way that Formland helps gather and lift upcoming designers as 'a unique opportunity'.
"Firstly, it's a great honour and a big pat on the back that someone has noticed my designs, because it must mean that they can see some kind of potential and innovation. Now I'm preparing all I can to show they've made the right decision, because it's a dream for me to be able to make a living from my designs. I hope that Formland is a step towards that dream," says Vinter.
Sought-after entrepreneurship awards announced on first day
As well as gaining experienced mentors and attending Formland Spring in Denmark, the 60 selected entrepreneurs in CREATORS COMMUNITY are also in the running for three Design Awards, which are given out on the first day of the trade fair. First prize is a stand at Formland Autumn 2020, and a cash prize of EUR 5,000, second and third prizes are cash prizes of EUR 1,500 and 1,000 respectively.
The winners are selected by a professional jury consisting of Anders Nørgaard (designer), Mads Arlien-Søborg (trend expert and partner in 'We Made It'), Patrizia Venturelli (CEO, Venturelli Consulting) Helle Blok (editor-in-chief, Bolig Magasinet and BoligPluss), as well as Mai-Britt Risvig Flyvholm (project manager, Formland).
Previous winners of the Formland Design Award include ISH Spirits, By Harald Hermanrud and Copenhagen Sparkling Tea.
