Socle du Monde

The co-operation between the art and the business world in Herning has a very special story behind it. The story begins and has its origins in Herning Kunstmuseum’s exceptional Manzoni collection, which today provides the basis for the museums’ strong international profile.

The museum has 46 Manzoni works, which makes this the world's largest Manzoni collection. The collection includes Piero Manzoni’s masterpiece Socle du Monde (base of the world).
The Manzoni collection today plays a very major role in attracting internationally recognised artists and knowledge society elite to Central Jutland to work.
This is at least partially shown by the formalized cooperation between international artists and companies in the artistic biennial Socle du Monde.

The Socle du Monde biennial is held in even number years - and the 2008 biennial will be the last one to be held with the Angli building as backdrop. Planning of the next biennial has already begun before we have moved in to heart. The biennial 2010 is planned to be the largest so far in Herning and will, through the new surroundings, gain an international format via the backdrop of Steven Holl’s world class architecture.

Socle du Monde biennials have been supported by the Danish business world. The biennial organisation is however working to expand these co-operative relationships for 2010.

The biennials are aimed at the region's citizens, but also at the international art public and international culture tourists.
International contemporary artist are provided, through Socle du Monde, the opportunity to develop in the cross-over laboratory for art and business.
